Soil Sampling and Soil Classification
In general, undisturbed sample taken at every 3 m interval for each borehole, or at depth indicated by Engineering Geologist according to the site conditions. Shelby tube thin-wall sampler is having a sharp cutting edge for Undisturbed Sampling of soils. The bottom of the borehole was cleaned, before a sample was taken and then “Shelby” thin-wall sample tube is driven by hydraulic push. Disturbed sample shall be obtained from split-spoon sampler by standard penetration test. Soil classification is generally carried out as per this recommendations of “BS 5930:1999 ( Site Investigation ) Code of Practice”. After collection the samples were sealed with wax immediately cut both ends and labeled properly before sending to the Laboratory for testing.
