    Laboratory Investigation Services

Geotechnics Myanmar laboratory is one of the most reliable and independent  lab in Myanmar and which is provides numerous physical classification tests,  mechanical strength tests for soil, concrete and associated materials that to meet the industry’s engineering design requirements.

Our staff who is the senior technicians positions are being sought at senior level for candidates with in excess five years experiences in geotechnical laboratory testing field and an in-depth knowledge of effective stress, odometer, shear box and routine laboratory testing. We also have vacancies for enthusiastic, practical persons with little or no experience of soils laboratory testing to join our Company. At first, full training will be given, but practical skills and a willingness to learn and work hard are essential qualities for the junior laboratory technicians.

Our lab equipment is ELE International Standard which can be testing of soil both automatic and manual. We can perform a wide range of test procedures to British Standards (BS), ASTM Standards and other National and International Standards.

    Index Property Tests

Moisture Content Determination test (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 3.2 and ASTM D 2216) of soils is the oven-drying method which is the standard method and the procedure recommended for a soil laboratory.

The usual types of sample in which the volume can be determined by Liner Measurement Method (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 7.2).

For Particle density test, we operating just two methods; Density bottle (Small Pyknometer) Method (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 8.3) is the traditional method for the accurate measurement of the density of particles heavier than water, or of the density of liquids and Large Pyknometer Method (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 8.3) is satisfactory for use with non-cohesive soils in a site laboratory with limited facilities.

Permeability test by Falling Head Permeability Method and this test is neither included in BS 1377:1990, nor in the ASTM which is the generally accepted practice.

Atterberg Limits test including Liquid Limit by Cone Penetrometer Method (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 4.3) and Casagrande Method (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 4.5 and ASTM D 4318 11, 12), Plastic Limit (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 5.3 and ASTM D 4318 15) and Plasticity Index (PI), Shrinkage Limit test (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 6.4 and ASTM D 427), Linear Shrinkage test can be used for soil of low plasticity, including silts as well as for clays which is follows by (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 6.5).

Partical Size Distribution test, we carry on the Wet Sieving Method for fine non-cohesive soils (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 9.2), Dry Sieving Method (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 9.3) and sedimentation by Hydrometer Method (BS 1377: Part2: 1990: 9.5 and ASTM D 422).

Compaction test, we using the cylindrical metal mold, internal dimensions 105 mm diameter and 115.5mm for both Light Compaction test (BS 1377: Part4: 1990: 3.3) and Heavy Compaction test (BS 1377: Part4: 1990: 3.5).

    Mechanical Property Tests

Unconfined compression Strength test or uniaxial test by Load Frame Method (BS 1377: Part7: 1990: 7.2 and ASTM D 2166) and Undrained Shear Strength by Quick Triaxial Method (BS 1377: Part7: 1990: 8 and ASTM D 2850). Capable of performing tests on the sample size (38 mm diameter and 76 mm length) and sample type (U100’s, Shelby, piston, etc.) and we use the undisturbed sample for these tests.

We have 60 mm square shear box apparatus for Direct Shear Strength test (BS 1377: Part7: 1990: 4 and ASTM D 3080) to determination either peak or residual. Samples can be prepared from many sources (including remolded bulk samples, U100’s, core cutter, piston tubes and intact block samples) and specimens size with up to 20 mm largest particles.

Oedometer Consolidation and swelling tests (BS 1377: Part5: 1990: 3 and ASTM D 2435) on 50 mm diameter and 20 mm height of undisturbed sample to allow either vertical drainage or horizontal drainage (either radially inwards or outwards).

California Bearing Ration, CBR test by Load Frame Method (BS 1377: Part4: 1990: 7.4 and ASTM D 1883).
